Interesting Spanish Article about 44 more titles being added to XB1 Backwards Compatibility
Found this article today hiding behind a few news items. It apparently links 44 new titles, but you will need a translator (it’s in Spanish) that are soon to come out for Xbox One Backwards Compatibility. Much like the German original leak list pdf that was released a while back, we’ll treat this as strictly rumor, but its worth mentioning. Full list of titles and discussion after the more.
Deals with Gold (Sorta) for the week of February 23rd, 2016
Welp, normally Major Nelson would have posted by now and we would all be rejoicing or cursing the weekly sales. The problem was it looks like with Xbox Live having major issues last night, we don’t get such a post. Thankfully, the people at XBLDB have detected some new deals. Among them, there are actually 2 backwards compatible titles (or should I say their DLC) that are on sale. Yep, if you love Gears of War 2 and 3 and want to play the DLC well then this week is for you. Among the other non-BC highlights, anybody who likes the Dead Island, Saints Row, Bioshock, or Borderlands series should be quite happy. If I get an official announcement, I will update the post. In the meantime, enjoy the mindless (but sometimes fun) killing of GOW.
Backwards Compatible Titles with DLC on sale
12:30 Updates
Also, we have reports that the new Doom will come bundled with the original Doom 1 and Doom 2 which are currently backwards compatible. I would have preferred Doom 3 (but I know there are licensing issues), but it’s a nice bonus for half a dozen of you who don’t have these two classic games.
2:00 Update
Looks like the Xbox Deals with Gold page has been updated. However, it’s not quite an inclusive list I believe. I am tempted to purchase the Saint’s Row IV+Gat out of Hell offering for Xbox One though.
Wednesday update
Call of Duty: Black Ops should be made available for Backwards Compatibility by end of February
It should not come as a big surprise, but confirmation of Call of Duty: Black Ops coming to backwards compatibility by February is now official. Hopefully, it does not come by itself and we get Bioshock Infinite or at least another arcade game to the mix. Speaking of which, I played Ms. Pac Man and Peggle over BC this weekend. Simple games, worked well, no surprises…especially the part where I really suck at any version of Pac-Man. I’m currently up to level 16, but I seriously doubt I make level 21. Anyway, if I hear additional news or Black Ops drops, I’ll post here. Have a great week.
2:30PM Update – Consider this a rumor but the next Games with Gold have been leaked by several sources. I had heard about Sherlock Holmes and truth is I had bought a physical copy no less than a month ago but I only paid a couple of bucks for it. So I’ll download the GWG, and assuming I finish it quickly, I can resell my sealed copy for more than a couple of bucks, I’m sure. The two BC games sound pretty nice since I’ve had wanted to try Supreme Commander and just didn’t want to spend the $10-$15 to do so. I already own Borderlands (GOTY version at that), but I’ll take advantage of the free digital copy since it runs pretty darn well, and has all of the DLC to boot. I had been on the lookout for Borderlands Handsome Collection but playing the original will satisfy my fix until B:HC hits $20 which it should by the second half of this year. More Borderlands, always a good thing.
Tuesday update: Games with Gold has now been confirmed on all four counts. Yeah for truthful rumors!
Deals with Gold for week of February 16th 2016, and mini-rant
Welp, it’s another week and here are the Deals with Gold. As you can tell, Xbox One backwards compatibility has laid another goose egg. Tales of Vesperia is a nice deal this week (I have it on disc and I’m keeping it that way), but at this point we have no idea if it will make BC. Also on the Xbox One side, Oddworld is having a good sale, and including the DLC but I’ll probably pass. Also, Gears of War 2 is free right now due to Games with Gold. But I don’t understand why Xbox and publishers (the more likely culprit) are playing this game of sorts and not understanding how sales and BC should work side by side. More inside.

Dark Souls coming to Xbox One Backwards compatibility, Hitman Absolution too (and Galaga is here)
It’s been already removed, but according to a post by Kotaku (which still has the picture if nothing else), but Dark Souls 3 pre-order should include as a freebie, Dark Souls. Which by proxy means, it will be backwards compatible. Now since Dark Souls 3 comes out in late March, it might not be official until sometime next month, but it should be coming. I think I have it on GWG, but I honestly have been scared off playing that game a LONG LONG time ago.
BTW, getting Peggle on sale was a mistake. It reminded me very quickly why I love Peggle 2 but very frustrated with the original. The original Peggle was just a source of constant frustration and the challenges by and large are beyond ridiculous. The fact that a seemingly unhittable peg can through a few bank shots (that would make Minnesota Fats envious) be hittable is only the tip of the iceberg. Anyway, sales tomorrow. I have my fingers crossed for Sam n Max. PLEASE. Enjoy, kids.
3:00pm Edit: Galaga of all titles did hit Xbox One backwards compatibility today. However, it appears that unless you own it on a disc, it won’t play. As it turns out, it is on Namco Museum (which I own), so even though I100%ed this title, I can still play it lol. I’m sure it will be fixed soon for the digital only crowd.
Hitman Absolution is also rumored to be a backwards compatible title per this article (Square Enix’s senior director of PR, Reilly Brennan, and Io-Interactive studio head, Hannes Seifert). This whole, release when ready thing while wonky is already better than the let’s wait a month and get everybody disappointed. Now, you can get disappointed every week or so (I kid, I kid!),
4 New Titles to BC, and Quantum Break pre-order news.
Alright, some good news this morning. Sorry this got posted late, I was dealing with my 9 month old who caught some nasty viral infection. If I had a free hand, I would have posted these two pieces of news.
- As mentioned, four titles were announced to Backwards compatibility. Alan Wake’s American Nightmare (back from the glitch over the weekend), Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space (the second Sam & Max title…wow, color me amazed a little), Lego Batman (looks like I get to go back and get that final achievement after all), and Trials HD (which I actually own on a compilation disc but never played).
- Looks like Quantum Break is coming with two 360 games if you pre-order which means: Two more backwards compatibility titles (one just delayed). Now, we already know that Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is BC as of today, but the original Alan Wake as well which I do own also on disc. Sounds like a banner day for me.
BC Deals with Gold for the week of February 9th, 2016
Welp, not much happening this week in regards to Deals with Gold. The sale is a mixed bag, but the major strike against it is that there are no Backwards compatible listings. I do want to point out that the excellent 2 Marvel Ultimate Alliance games are only $10 a piece and they do include all DLC I’ve heard. This is pretty huge, I own both physically and bought the DLC to the second game and we aren’t even going to talk about how much money I dropped :). I would hope this means a BC announcement down the road, but there is no telling with this kinda stuff anymore. I did want to give a small update and let you know that my Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is no longer working, but my Castlevania: Symphony of the Night still is (thanks to Konami Classics Vol 1). Three cheers to physical copies. I will certainly be playing more of it, but it runs incredibly smooth so far. That’s it for this week unless we get another announcement and btw, Sacred Citadel is still free until the 15th. Enjoy!
Microsoft Giveth and then Taketh Away (Red Dead Redemption and more!)
Welp, Super Bowl Sunday brought us lots of things like a boring Super Bowl, lots of stomach aches and backwards compatibility on a few unexpected games. Here is the story that basically sums up what happened and the fallout that occurred. Basically, if you owned the games in some form or fashion (digital or disc), you could have gone ahead and played certain games well ahead of their release window for backwards compatibility. I tested this personally on both Alan Wake’s American Nightmare (via the follow method), and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Konami Classics Volume 1) and was able to download both (and get to a boot up screen). Supposedly if I try to play either one from today going forward I will go into an offline mode. I have some hopes that everybody forgot about Symphony of the Night being a part of a compilation disc and I might have that for a bit longer. The point here is though that Red Dead Redemption, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Halo Wars, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, and Left 4 Dead 2 (another one I heard) will soon be OFFICIALLY backwards compatible. If they leaked it, accidentally or not, it means it is in the final stages of testing. Give it two weeks and everybody will be able to play it. We will make updates to the spreadsheet and put them up as tentative waiting the official announcement.

BC Deals with Gold for the week of February 2nd, 2016
Well, I have my technical issues sorted out for the time being and that means I can give you the sales fairly quickly once I see word of them. This week (unlike last week) we actually have some backwards compatible sales as posted by Major Nelson. Follow that up with a whole list of interesting sales of titles that might eventually be backwards compatible such as Kingdoms of Amalur, Crysis 2 and 3, Dragon Age 2 and even NCAA Football 14 (at a new low of $5). Anyway, I’ll need to look at my physical copy of DA2 and see if I really want to keep it around (I have the rest I list above all digitally) and still trying to find my Plants vs Zombies disc which has Peggle on it. If not, I might be grabbing both this week. Enjoy kids.
- Bejeweled 2 – $2.49
- Feeding Frenzy – $2.49
- Feeding Frenzy 2 – $4.99
- Heavy Weapon – $4.99
- Peggle – $4.99
- Zuma – $2.49
- Zuma’s Revenge – $4.99
3:30PM Edit, found one more thanks to XBLDB.com, and that was Plants vs Zombies (which most people probably have, but a sale is a sale).
Weekend Update 02/01/2016
Sorry for the inactivity last week, things were a little weird for me and when I wasn’t at home trying to get better, I was at work trying to get back those hours lost to me and I have some new technical issues to deal with as well. Hence, nothing was blogged on this page. Luckily, there was not too much going on. However, if you step inside I will try to update you going forward and what to expect.
