BC Deals with Gold for the week of September 13th, 2016
Welp, I did partake in the Namco sale last week….actually grabbed three games in total. The 3 in 1 pack (PacMan, Galaga, and Dig Dug), Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition for Xbox One and then PacMan Museum for Xbox 360. I stopped short of getting Galaga Legions DX and figured the nostalgia on the original Galaga would be enough. I ended up playing Galaga off the 3 in 1 pack for about 2-3 hours, got over half of the achievements and then went back to something else.
This week is the usual Warner Bros (read as Batman) + Lego everything sale that we get every so many months. Speaking about Lego, I would probably get Lego Batman 2 digitally if they made it backwards compatible. I have the disc but I’ve barely touched it and would be willing to sell it off fairly quickly. In the it should be backwards compatible but currently isn’t department, we have Deadly Premonition and Lord of the Rings: War of the North both on sale. I have both on disc and they are very well done. I have a feeling this week that we might get something in this list on BC (like another Lego title or two) but I’m not holding my breath. Enjoy.
Forza Horizon Rally Expansion Pack* | $4.99 | 75% | DWG |
Forza Horizon Season Pass* | $4.99 | 75% | DWG |
Forza Horizon VIP Membership and Cars Pack* | $2.49 | 75% | DWG |
LEGO Batman | $4.99 | 75% | Pub Sale |
Bayonetta, Arkanoid Live!, de Blob 2, Of Orcs and Men, and QIX++ added to Backwards Compatibility!!
Tweets can be found here and here.
Hopefully people are at least a little bit happy about today’s announcement. I mean after all Bayonetta was one of the higher asked for games and one of my virtual personal locks if you remember my early columns. Of Orcs and Men is also important due to being the original game that introduced us to a little stealthy goblin named Styx. The only part that sucks is those of us in the United States can’t enjoy it (UK only). The rest, happy to have them but really don’t interest me all that much.
- Arkanoid Live! $9.99
- Bayonetta $19.99 (available on disc)
- de Blob 2 $19.99 (available on disc)
- Of Orcs and Men £14.99
- QIX++ $9.99
Deathspank: TOV, Bejeweled 3, and Gatling Gears added to Backwards Compatibility!!
Three more new games for the backwards compatible library but sadly I’m only happy for one of them (Bejeweled 3). I own the original Deathspank but not the sequel. The humor is hilarious but much like most “really funny” games, they come with a high difficulty curve. Bejeweled 3 is about what you would expect from the matching jewels game but it does have several fun modes that really put the game on its ear. Personally I would try to find the disc as it goes for $5-$10 rather than the digital version which is $15. The disc version also comes with Bejeweled Blitz which will probably become BC fairly soon. Unfortunately, I know nothing about Gatling Gears, it’s a shoot-em up with some decent graphics, might be worth snagging on a sale if you don’t already own it.
Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue $14.99
BC Deals for the week of September 6th, 2016
This looks like quite the good week for those who like classic arcade games of yesteryear that are backwards compatible for the Xbox One. In other words, we have a Namco sale this week. I easily see three purchases for myself this week and I could probably be talked into one more. Pac Museum is a steal at $5, Galaga Legions DX is a pretty good buy too (and Soul Calibur II HD has backed off its high entry price). There are some good deals also on the Xbox one side too so take a look and enjoy.
Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Forza Horizon added to Backwards Compatibility!!
Well, one was expected, the other one not so much. Castle of Illusion despite Mickey Mouse is actually a Sega title. This one is unfortunately a $14.99 title but it has been on sale several times so there is hope for something similar. The achievements are also doable and anybody that played the Sega Genesis classic should be right at home. We so need a Sega sale in our near future. Sega has really stepped up to the plate when it has come to Backwards Compatibility and I really want some of these that they have converted over. Maybe someday, enjoy!
8/31 Update – I found out through a couple of wires today that Castle of Illusion will actually be delisted on September 2nd. So the $14.99 price just became a lot more important. However, I still don’t know if it is worth it. Well, we got until Friday to figure it out.
BC Deals with Gold for the week of August 30th, 2016
Welp, it’s your favorite backwards compatibility guy back with another week of deals. Actually, am I not the only BC guy…I mean the only one who deals with just that and nothing else. Anyway, this week I’m operating from a remote location so links will be a little slow this week. But come on, don’t you know how to use Xbox.com by now. There is a fair amount this week to look at but it does feel like dejavu since Activision often has sales. Enjoy!
- Call of Duty: Black Ops $14.99 (really?…you can buy a card off Ebay for less than $10)
- Capcom Arcade Cabinet: All in One Cabinet $6.24 (if you were smart enough to purchase the base three weeks ago, you were rewarded this week)
- Gears of War $4.94
- Gears of War 2 $6.59
- Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection $4.99
- Gears of War 3 $6.59
- Gears of War 3 $9.89 (they don’t learn, for old games the DLC should be the same as the base game or lower)
- Gears of War Judgment $6.59
- Gears of War Judgment VIP Pass $9.99(and again)
Joust added to Backwards Compatibility!!
Even though most people will write this one off (I almost did), Joust is important for BC purposes. I actually had to go check on TrueAchievements and see if I had even played it. Well, about 9 years ago, I did. LOL. So, yeah I’ve got a digital copy and I will benefit from this. Achievements are pretty nuts too, and I don’t expect to see myself spending too much time with it. But…this serves two purposes. 1)This is a delisted game. True, the assets were scooped up by Warner Bros, but this might give hope to other Midway games making it to 360 BC (Stranglehold, I’m looking at you). 2)This might or might not play if you insert Midway Arcade Origins in your Xbox One, a compilation 360 title that was released in 2012. I’ve played that one as well and the only reason it might not load is that Midway Arcade Origins had its own set of achievements, therefore it might considered a separate game. Anyway, I’ll include a brief update later when I’ve tried the Midway Origins disc. I’ll give it a 25% shot. Later.
Friday morning edit: Midway Arcade Origins will not load Joust in your Xbox One. Tried it last night and welp, sorry. Didn’t think it would because of the different achievements, but I tried.
Games with Gold for the month of September 2016
Well, it was coming this week, just wasn’t sure which day and that’s the announcement of Games with Gold. It’s really good for the first part of the month, but kinda disappointing for the later. The best news is that this means one more game for Backwards Compatibility in Forza Horizon. Earthlock for the Xbox One is certainly my biggest interest and an automatic download. I wish I was better at racing games not named Burnout but still happy about the games for September. Enjoy.
Xbox One
Earthlock: Festival of Magic – September 1st-30th
Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China – September 16th – October 15th
Xbox 360 (BC with the One)
Forza Horizon – September 1st-15th
Mirror’s Edge – September 16th – 30th
Call of Duty 2 added to Backwards Compatibility!!
Personally, I think some people really need a heavy dose of help. Call of Duty fans should be pretty freaking happy today but yet all some of them can say is where is my Black Ops 2? I get the where is Bioshock (still supposedly coming despite the Collection release for Xbox One) or where is the Dragon Ages or even Skate 3. But Call of Duty fans, you have the original Black Ops and COD 2 as of today. Shut up and sit down, seriously. But for the rest of you normal folk, it should be pointed out that this is another retail release. It feels a little slow (but it’s probably not), but this is coming along. Enjoy folks.
BC Deals for the week of August 23rd, 2016
The deals with gold are suffering from a severe case of deja-vu. Well, at least the Xbox 360 portion which sees titles we are very familiar with from the last 6 months. The good news is that if you missed Faery or Mars or SSX before, you are in luck. The bad news is if you were expecting something different, well I don’t have much for you. I will also say that RAW (which I’m close to pulling the trigger on) and Skate 3 should hit BC fairly soon. In addition, I still hold a pretty good possibility that Bound by Flame will as well since it is a Spiders title. Though, I bought a sealed copy for $10 not too long ago and asked Spiders through their Twitter page if it was coming to backwards compatibility. I never got a response :(. Anyway, enjoy your week. We’ll see what happens.
