BC Deals with Gold for the Week of February 5th, 2019

Well I can say I did play a couple of “new” games last week, just not terribly exciting ones.  I spent roughly two hours playing Football Frenzy (NeoGeo) and it was arguably still more interesting than the actual SuperBowl on Sunday.  Then I restarted Lego Batman 2 (thank you backwards compatibility).  I decided to start from scratch even though I had played through the first four levels (5 years ago) which was probably for the best.  I’m now at stage 6.  I’ll keep going for now, though it feels exactly the same as the first Lego Batman which really burned me out the last time I played it.  It also reminds me heavily of Lego Marvel Super Heroes which I was never quite able to finish because of the awful flying issues.  We’ll see.

Not many sales on the Xbox 360 side this week.  Battlefield and well that’s it.  Not too much to say about that.  Much better off this week looking at the various indie sports sales on the X1.  Anyway, I’ll be posting a few links later this week to a couple of movie/anime reviews that I completed for Upcomingdiscs.  Until then, enjoy.

Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes & Port Royale 3: Pirates and Merchants added to Backwards Compatibility!!

Very happy about these two choices indeed.  Especially Lego Batman 2 which has been on my backlog for quite sometime (actually over 5 years) when I played it for a couple of hours and then forgot about it.  Port Royale 3 I’ve seen in many an used shop so I might try to pick it up next time if its still there.  All in all, a good day for BC.  Hope you enjoy and have a great rest of the week.

Games with Gold for Month of February 2019

Looks like the new Games with Gold were announced this morning.  This announcement is not half bad honestly.  The only disappointment and this is a personal one is Bloodstained.  Why?  Because I was part of the Kickstarter that got this sucker for free.  But I guess I was supporting a project, blah blah, etc :).  The GWG did save me this month from buying the Bomberman game which I was going to get when it dropped to $15 or so.  It does have some very grindy achievements, be warned.  AC: Rogue is good but to be honest I’ll probably never play it.  Finally Jedi Knight should be an interesting pick though I’d be lying if I wish it wasn’t one of the Old Republics instead.  Enjoy your month.

Xbox One

  • Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon (February 1st-28th)
  • Super Bomberman R (February 16th – March 15th)

Xbox 360

  • Assassin’s Creed: Rogue (February 1st-15th)
  • Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (XBO) (February 16th-28th)

BC Deals with Gold for the Week of January 29th, 2019

I would like to say that I played something new this past week, that was not the case.  I would like to say that outside of maybe half an hour with Road Redemption, I played anything at all this past week, that was not the case either.  I spent most of my time messing with my old laptop trying to get it to work again.  Which I did, after I switched it from Windows to Linux Mint.  Yeah, I said screw this and went all geek on it.  It’s working better now than it ever did with Windows 7.  So take that Microsoft.  I only use it for music and video editing anyway though so its a small victory I guess.

Anyway, moving on.  We have sales.  A whole heck of a lot of Assassin’s Creed (you would think some of them would have deeper discounts) and not much else.  The most interesting non-BC title here would have to be Resonance of Fate. I doubt it will get added to BC this week, but it comes from Sega so a future BC announcement is certainly possible.    So enjoy your Superbowl Week, I’m not really too interested in any football game that the Patriots are in (unless they are playing the Eagles) but I will probably watch nevertheless.  Take care.

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, and Red Alert 3 Commander’s Challenge added to Backward Compatibility!!!!

Basically, if you like Command & Conquer, today is your day.  This should be all 4 titles in the line and represents a ridiculous amount of gameplay for those who appreciate the strategy genre.  Red Alert 3: Commander’s Challenge is a digital title only but the other three are readily available in physical format at reasonable prices.  Though counter to that point, Red Alert 3 and Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars are on sale @ 50% off digitally through the Xbox store.  So go out there, and develop your resources and destroy your enemies.  Or something like that, enjoy.

BC Deals with Gold for the Week of January 22nd, 2019

Well, I had to delete Gyromancer from my console last night.  After roughly 30 tries to get the Gyro Chain achievement (and no success), I realized I had became obsessed with it and hence, I did the rational thing and deleted it.  Maybe someday in the future I’ll give it a shot again, but I need to move on.  I’ll be searching for a new game, I think I might do an easy one(1-5 hours) before dropping back into something that would be more than 10-15 hours.

We got sales.  A lot to like especially if you are into Dead Space or Tom Clancy games.  I would imagine that Ghost Recon AW 2 becomes BC soon as well, it just fits this week’s theme.  Of course I was hoping for Syndicate last week and we see how well that went.  Anyway, I’ll be back later today or Thursday with hopefully a new BC game or two to talk about.   Enjoy.

Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation added to Backwards Compatibility!

Still can’t get the Gyro Chain achievement in Gyromancer.  I’ve literally been one or two matches before making it and then I have to blow up the board and either die or beat the monster I’m fighting.  And it’s a level 50 creature to boot.  I’m way too overpowered at level 60 though and if I switch to a level 40, I get beat up too quickly.  Not sure how to proceed.

Anyway, here is a physical only release that has made backwards compatibility.  An used copy of Ace Combat 6 looks to run about $20 according to Amazon and the like.  However, it should be noted if you pre-order or buy Ace Combat 7 at release, you will be able to get AC 6 for free.  Probably worth it if you are into aerial flight or fight games.  That’s all I got for now, enjoy your lone release this week (and I was so hoping for Syndicate, oh well).

  • Ace Combat 6 (not available digitally)(physical copy @ ~$20.00 or with pre-order of 7)

BC Deals with Gold for the Week of January 15th, 2019

Well I beat the main story line of Gyromancer and also racked up 100 awards last night.  As mentioned previously, 120 awards (or all of them) is not going to happen except by sheer darn luck.  Furthermore, while I enjoy Bejeweled (which this basically is), I am far from a master so passing the Stones isn’t going to work either.  The only achievement left at this point I can probably get is the Gyro Chain one which I’ll probably do this week.  Over in Road Redemption land, I’m to the point where I’m getting a little bored of running the campaign over and over again.  So, in the next week I’ll probably find a new game to start.

Anyway, we have sales.  There is some Borderlands, Far Cry and Need for Speed here (and old Skate games too) to choose from.  A lot of titles, but not many BC selections.  Syndicate is on sale but not currently a BC game and it would be an interesting choice if it went that way.  But we will just have to see what happens.  Enjoy your week, and I’ll be trying to do the same.  Take care.

Battlestations: Pacific, FUEL, and Rayman – Raving Rabbids added to Backwards Compatibility!!!

Sorry if I’m a little late on this one.  They don’t usually do announcements on Thursdays anymore so this caught me a bit by surprise.    It’s an odd series of announcements for sure, but releases are releases.  I would guess that we will see FUEL as a GWG announcement at some point since Microsoft loves offering racing games in that style.   I still hold out some hope for GUN, maybe this will be the year.  Enjoy.

BC Deals with Gold for the Week of January 8th, 2019

Another week, and I’m still splitting time between Gyromancer and Road Redemption.  Gyromancer, I’m making my way slowly through the game towards my goal of beating it and getting hopefully 100 of the 120 awards.  I know I won’t 100% it, but I should be able to actually beat it.  I’m almost 75 awards in and on stage 9 currently (of 11).  Road Redemption I’m done with the quick races (got gold on all of them) and working on the campaign which is pretty darn tough.  I’m also stuck with a few of the achievements due to the glitches on any achievements that are cumulative.  So hopefully that patch gets released soon and I can start getting credit for things I’ve already done.

Anyway, on to sales!  There is some good stuff here (including Xbox One as well) and worth taking a look at.  I do want to point out that there is a lot of 360 FX2 Pinball DLC on this list.  Remember, this stuff won’t easily convert over to Xbox One because Pinball FX2 was delisted on that console.  If you plan on leaving it on your 360, it’s a great deal but don’t buy it expecting Zen to help you with the conversion.  They did help me with mine but that was about a year ago, they might not be so willing now.  Anyway, enjoy the sales and I think we will have some new BC games a little later, so I look forward to bringing you that.  Take care.
