Musings and Nonsense for January 16th, 2021

Immediately you might notice that I have changed the title of this column, and you might also have noticed that it’s been two weeks.  I do apologize for that but work set in, I got fed a few new projects and my depression and the feeling of burnt out returned.  I barely want to even watch anything I normally do at this point and to prove my point I am way behind on wrestling…I need to check WWE Network, but I’m probably about 3-4 weeks behind.  I miss NXT and NXT UK.

I have watched a few movies and series in the last couple of weeks.  Me and my wife did binge a couple of things on HBO Max (finally using that subscription) including the Flight Attendant (very good, quite surprised me) and the Undoing which I think my wife liked more than I did.  Not that I don’t like Nicole Kidman or Hugh Grant (in the right roles) but it didn’t quite leave me satisfied.

On the movie front, I watched Bad Times at the El Royale and loved it.  Seriously, Jeff Bridges was fantastic, and honestly I don’t have a bad thing to say about any of the characters really.  They all fit nicely, and there was a few good twists and turns too.  Saw Peabody and Sherman, didn’t care for it, but my son liked it.  I’ll ditch the disc and keep the digital code on that one.  By the same token, I saw Long Way North, enjoyed it a great deal and my son could care less about it.

Last night I started a movie named Blind Date (1984) and its not very good so far.  Yeah, it has a lot of pretty girls (including Kristie Alley in her prime), but the story is not there for me at all (maybe it will pick up).  I just hope it doesn’t end up as bad as White Bird in a Blizzard was (I literally turned that off half an hour in).  I do find as I get older, my tolerance for bad movies is starting to get thin (especially now that I don’t have to write reviews for them).   I just have so many movies unwatched that I need some way to get through them.  I also need to find a more reliable way of getting rid of them as well once I’m done with the okay to terrible ones but that’s an ongoing issue in this COVID world that we are living in.  (All of the swap shops with the exception of a few random book stores have closed up)

On the video game front, I have only been playing Skyrim.  As far as recent events, I am level 13.  I’ve already abandoned the main quest (again) and started to do the Thieves Guild quests only to stop mid-stream and switch to College of Winterhold since I never messed with those due to an early glitch in the 360 version that I could never overcome.  Now keep in mind, my magic is absolute shite but its not like when it comes to Skyrim I can’t just think ways around various scenarios.  At least for a while anyway, and worst case scenario is that I just keep improving my skills which I have never found gets me in too much trouble when it comes to this game.

If you are looking for a cheap game this weekend on your Xbox, feel free to check out the sales:

Ignoring the 360 games because if you don’t have Bound by Flame and Mars: War Logs by now, seriously you don’t pay attention to any of the sales at all.   There are a few interesting Xbox One games to look at here.  Once upon a time, I actually reviewed a game called Stranger of Sword City which never seems to go on sale and can be had for a mere $10 now (it’s normally $40).  It’s pure Japanese Dungeon type RPG but it’s done pretty well and will keep your attention for a quite a while if you are into those type of games.  There are also a lot of board games here including Monopoly and Boggle.  I somewhat want to blow $4 just to play Uno again, but I probably should just pick up a deck of cards and try to teach my son again, actually that’s probably a much better idea.

As with most corporate professionals, I suppose I could spend $3 and some change to play Doug Hates his Job but no thanks.  By the way, be sure to pick up your free Games with Gold this month.  Dead Rising is now available along with Breakdown for the original Xbox.  Also, even though its not advertised, Frontline: Fuels of War is also free as are two pieces of DLC for that game.  So be sure to pick all of those up since you paid for your subscription anyway.  I’ll probably be trying to find a few minutes this weekend to play some more Skyrim though I am tempted to also try Torchlight III which just became available on Game Pass.  Have a great weekend, and enjoy.

Ready for a snappy intro?  How about this, I have not written one of these in six months and really regret it.  The problem is, I ran into a little issue, somewhere between the fact I was quickly approaching 40, I gained an amazing wife and we had a perfect little son.  Before you ask, this is not going to be some dad blog where I prate on for pages and pages about how wonderful it is to be a father.  It’s great, it’s wonderful, there is not a better person I could have done it with, but its not my style.  Let’s dip into life and what’s going in my little corner of the world.  Sure there will be dad bits, but it won’t be a dad bit.

Just a few days here from that day known as Christmas to many, Happy Holidays to others, and a few some four letter words that we try and refrain from using because we forgot to get that somebody special a Christmas gift.  And it’s always that person that has not gotten you a gift in years but somehow decided to give you something this year.  So therefore, you are scrambling around for something that makes sense but that’s not going to cripple your bank account.  Anyway, moving onward and upward, let’s talk about other things.  Continue reading “December 22nd, 2014”

So this should be a much shorter blog and I really am using this as a vehicle to get a couple of things off my chest.  Also, it is one day before Thanksgiving and we are going to go quick hits on all of my thoughts before that faithful day.  This will be a bit different from my usual blogs, so let’s go shall we?

It be the month of November, a mere few days from where people ingest massive helpings of turkey and then fall asleep watching football and bad parades before engulfing a piece of pumpkin pie.  Wait, this would be the part where I insert something about family, togetherness and love.  Clearly you have not been paying attention. Cynicism is probably my middle name for the next month or so but hopefully my wife can break me out of them.  More inside.   Continue reading “November 21st, 2014”

October 30th, 2014

It is the day before Halloween, arguably one of my favorite Holidays as long as I am inside, watching scary movies or playing a frightening video game.  Oh, and enjoying a few pieces of candy.  Okay, so maybe occasionally I can be encouraged to move away from my box, put on a costume and go to a local function.  It is not asking too much for me to go out, just my social ineptitude does not usually allow me to act any differently.  Let’s dip inside for a spell though and see what we have to talk about this week. A great goal for this website would be writing a blog once a week.  A slightly less but still good goal might one blog every two weeks.  Now, before this blog I was working on once a year which let’s face facts is pretty bad.  So, perhaps the reasonable and decent goal is a blog every 2 to 3 weeks.   Now who is taking bets on that actually happening?  *crickets* *tumbleweeds in the distance* *eerie Silent Hill music*  Hrmm, well let’s take a look inside and discuss everything from The Calling to Peggle 2 to this guy actually attending a voice acting class in the near future.  Want more?  Well, click inside anyway, will ya? It is really a funny thing.  I love my website, but the last ten months have been absolutely nuts.  I would have loved to chronicle the whole thing month by month and that way we could see the progression.  Instead, I have to hope that this is the start of something that I indeed to keep up about once a month (that seems right) and then keep with it.  The good news is that I have no desire to get rid of this site, the even better news is that the Michael I left you with in 2013 is a better one, and it is all thanks to one solitary person.  More inside.

If the pattern you are sensing is that it is longer between my blog posts, then you are absolutely, unequivocally…right.  Even though once I get going, I can go for pages and pages, sometimes the actual going part takes some doing.  But those who are awesome enough to read my ramblings aren’t looking for excuses now are ya?  They are looking for material to captivate their Christmas morning, something to tide over that hot chocolate before that feast comes with either enough turkey or enough ham to feed your family and possibly your neighbor’s too.  Then step inside, and we will see what rises to the surface.

November 1st, 2013

Well I am sitting here on a Friday night listening to a little Pet Shop Boys (*deep voice* “West End Girls”).  This has been a very long week full of ups and downs.  It started out on some of the most unappealing of notes but somewhere along the way it actually became good again and that is where I am bound and determined to keep it as long as humanly possible.  Yeah, there is something for those who follow this blog on at least a semi-continuing manner haven’t heard…positivity.  Quick, go inside while you still can.
