BC Deals with Gold for the week of February 9th, 2016

Welp, not much happening this week in regards to Deals with Gold.  The sale is a mixed bag, but the major strike against it is that there are no Backwards compatible listings.  I do want to point out that the excellent 2 Marvel Ultimate Alliance games are only $10 a piece and they do include all DLC I’ve heard.  This is pretty huge, I own both physically and bought the DLC to the second game and we aren’t even going to talk about how much money I dropped :).  I would hope this means a BC announcement down the road, but there is no telling with this kinda stuff anymore.  I did want to give a small update and let you know that my Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is no longer working, but my Castlevania: Symphony of the Night still is (thanks to Konami Classics Vol 1).  Three cheers to physical copies.   I will certainly be playing more of it, but it runs incredibly smooth so far.  That’s it for this week unless we get another announcement and btw, Sacred Citadel is still free until the 15th.  Enjoy!

Microsoft Giveth and then Taketh Away (Red Dead Redemption and more!)

Welp, Super Bowl Sunday brought us lots of things like a boring Super Bowl, lots of stomach aches and backwards compatibility on a few unexpected games.  Here is the story that basically sums up what happened and the fallout that occurred.  Basically, if you owned the games in some form or fashion (digital or disc), you could have gone ahead and played certain games well ahead of their release window for backwards compatibility.  I tested this personally on both Alan Wake’s American Nightmare (via the follow method), and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Konami Classics Volume 1) and was able to download both (and get to a boot up screen).  Supposedly if I try to play either one from today going forward I will go into an offline mode.  I have some hopes that everybody forgot about Symphony of the Night being a part of a compilation disc and I might have that for a bit longer.  The point here is though that Red Dead Redemption, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Halo Wars, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, and Left 4 Dead 2 (another one I heard) will soon be OFFICIALLY backwards compatible.  If they leaked it, accidentally or not, it means it is in the final stages of testing.  Give it two weeks and everybody will be able to play it.  We will make updates to the spreadsheet and put them up as tentative waiting the official announcement.

BC Deals with Gold for the week of February 2nd, 2016

Well, I have my technical issues sorted out for the time being and that means I can give you the sales fairly quickly once I see word of them.  This week (unlike last week) we actually have some backwards compatible sales as posted by Major Nelson.  Follow that up with a whole list of interesting sales of titles that might eventually be backwards compatible such as Kingdoms of Amalur, Crysis 2 and 3, Dragon Age 2 and even NCAA Football 14 (at a new low of $5).  Anyway, I’ll need to look at my physical copy of DA2 and see if I really want to keep it around (I have the rest I list above all digitally) and still trying to find my Plants vs Zombies disc which has Peggle on it. If not, I might be grabbing both this week.   Enjoy kids.

3:30PM Edit, found one more thanks to XBLDB.com, and that was Plants vs Zombies (which most people probably have, but a sale is a sale).

Weekend Update 02/01/2016

Sorry for the inactivity last week, things were a little weird for me and when I wasn’t at home trying to get better, I was at work trying to get back those hours lost to me and I have some new technical issues to deal with as well.  Hence, nothing was blogged on this page.  Luckily, there was not too much going on.  However, if you step inside I will try to update you going forward and what to expect.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Age of Booty and Jeremy McGrath’s Offroad BC soon?

Per this post over at AttackOfTheFanBoy, it appears that we have a few new games that might be part of the Backwards compatible list either via preview or already officially out.  Those are:

Tekken Tag Tournament 2

Age of Booty (listed in comments of the article)

Jeremy McGrath’s Offroad (listed in comments of the article)

I can’t say I’m really all that excited, I did almost buy Age of Booty a couple of times.  But new titles are always good.  I will add them to the list as “Preview” designation until Microsoft officially acknowledges them.

9:00am edit – WE HAD TEN TITLES RELEASE TODAY.  Also, right now Witcher 2 is FREE (In some regions like the US) AND BC!!!!!!

I’ll update the list a little later, but here is the link if you want to get started (from Major Nelson himself)

Witcher 2, Sam & Max, Small Arms and more! – Full List & comments on the “more”.

Xbox Live Deals with Gold for the week of January 19th, 2016 – “I am having trouble finding a sale”

Well before you scroll or look to the bottom of this email, I want you to know up front that there are NO Xbox One backwards compatible sales this week.  Supposedly, via a tweet or two though, there is supposed to be a new slew of BC games announced this week per Mr. Xbox Boss Phil Spencer.  Also in the tweet world, Brutal Legend might be a future title as well per Tim Schafer over at Double Fine (developer). By the way, if you have forgotten, Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a free title currently if you have Gold and is backwards compatible.

I have been spending my time between four games primarily on Xbox One, Tales from the Borderlands (Episode 5), Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (Act III), Gems of War (Level 42) and just started The Golf Club (I really, really suck at Golf).  I did also get a “new” Xbox 360 since my previous one broke.  It’s a slim, and has worked really well so far.   In addition, I finally got the majority of my games out of storage and I will be going through those very soon.  Anyway, take care, I’ll be back hopefully later this week with the announcement of more BC games.

Xbox Live Deals with Gold for the week of January 12th, 2016 – “It’s a Small Sale After All”

Pretty underwhelming sales this week. This week’s deals can be found here.  In fact, there is only one game BC available this week.  BTW, I did get Phantom Breaker Battlegrounds last week, and I’m having a good time with it.  I did manage to go ahead and secure all of the online achievements (if you still need them, feel free to message me) and now I’m just working on the single player ones.  Also, Dirt Showdown is still free for BC until the 15th.  (Then its Deus Ex after that)

• NBA Jam: On Fire Edition – $4.94

I actually had tried NBA Jam on my old 360 (that bit the dust about a week ago), but my 360 had so many issues that I couldn’t even get the trial to work.  Now, its backwards compatible, and I also got a “new” Xbox 360 from an old work friend (250gb slim), so I would be good on both fronts.  Interestingly also, there are only 3 Xbox 360 games on sale this week, Syndicate, Crysis and NBA Jam. Usually, BC games are announced at the middle of the month or most likely next week.  Maybe due to timeliness, Syndicate and Crysis get added?  That would be nice.  I already have Syndicate on disc (I actually had two copies at one point), and Crysis I have digitally. We shall see.  Probably nothing for me this week, but sometimes I get an itchy trigger finger.  Take care and have a good one.

Xbox Live Deals with Gold for the week of January 5th, 2016 – “Not the Biggest Sale ever?”

I believe we are back to normal type sales weeks.  Honestly, yes I picked up Burnout Paradise and Lego Batman 3 Deluxe, but the deals were mostly underwhelming.  This week’s deals can be found here. (Had to link XboxAchievements.com since the Major appears to be a bit slow to awaken this morning)  This week it seems like we are getting one BC game and its DLC to enjoy.  I read a couple of reviews and they seem to reference Scott Pilgrim and River City Ransom which makes this a strong consideration.  I’m still not a fan of the way Scott Pilgrim went out, with high priced DLC and then delisting it without a word.  (Great game too)  Here is Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds.  Also, Dirt Showdown is free for BC until the 15th.  (Then its Deus Ex after that)

• Phantom Breaker: Battleground $4.99

• Phantom Breaker: Battleground DLC: Kurisu Pack $2.49

Xbox Live Countdown Sale continuing December 29 – “Biggest sale ever”

This will be a little more of an extended column today (after the more link), but first let’s get to the Tuesday sales.  Oh, before I do that, I do want to apologize for not reporting South Park: Stick of Truth (which is BC Compatible) was on sale one day last week for $8 I think.  I was not near my computer, and my phone nor tablet would not log into the site for whatever silly reason (something about cookies which should not have been an issue).  Anyway, we do have a few games this week (BC) that are on sale (with Gold prices listed).

• Castle Crashers – $4.94
• Gears of War 2 – $9.99
• Gears of War 3 – $9.99
• Gears of War: Judgment – $9.99
• Supreme Commander 2 – $9.89

Xbox Live Countdown Sale starting December 22 – “Biggest sale ever”

Most of these deals found here are already live on Xbox, so feel free to go ahead and purchase.  I am eyeing the Lego Batman 3 Deluxe Bundle for Xbox One which is a darn good price for the game and 6 DLC packs (all with achievements) at $11 and some change.  Here are the Xbox 360 (Backwards Compatible with the One) titles if you don’t want to go through the whole list:

• Blood Of The Werewolf – $2.30
• Bloodrayne: Betrayal – $3.29
• Fable III –  $4.99
• Fable II –  $4.99
• Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga –  $4.99
• Portal: Still Alive – $4.94

Edit: The sale is now live and official.  You can find the Xbox post here.  There were also a couple more BC sales that it looks like were missed in the original findings.

• A World of Kelfings $4.99

• Joyride Turbo $4.99

Nothing else really interests me except for Dragon Age Inquisition (Xbox One) GOTY package at a mere $24.00.  I have the physical GOTY (but remember the DLC is codes, not on a disc) but its unopened, so I could return that I guess.  I don’t know, we’ll see what the daily sales bring.
