Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project and Sonic the Fighters added to Backwards Compatibility!

Microsoft certainly loves their odd pairings and trios when it comes to announcing releases to backwards compatibility.  Interestingly enough, I do own the Duke Nukem game which was a throwback to the older Duke games on the PC (side scroller action).  I never finished it and I would imagine that this at least gives me incentive to give it another shot.  On the what was the last time this game had a sale…Garou was $4.99 (normally $9.99) in April of last year, Duke has been on sale never (normally $9.99), and Sonic the Fighters was last on sale in 2013 (but on the flip side it’s only normally $5 and an easy completion).  We’ll take it but hopefully there is at least one more announcement this week.

BC Deals with Gold for the week of April 12th, 2016 (Alan Wake Free DLC too)!

Welp, another week, another list of deals with no Backwards compatibility.   It’s not a horrible list of deals per say, but its frustrating more than anything.  I mean, taking this list for example, I really want to see Remember Me or Puzzle Fighter make BC, but they haven’t to this point.  In addition, I would consider buying one of the Street Fighters if they pulled a Tekken Tag 2 like announcement where they made BC and had a sale in the same week.  (I really would like to see numbers on that btw…the amount of people who bought it before and after the announcement)

Oh and I do have one piece of general BC news.  Both DLC packs for Alan Wake are now free as of late last week.  Unfortunately, I already have both, but its good for the people who waited forever and a day to get them :).  I would assume this is permanent, but time will tell. Links are below.  Enjoy.

Outland and Gunstar Heroes added to Backwards Compatibility!

Well, two oddball titles were added to backwards compatibility today.  Unfortunately I own neither and neither are currently on sale.  (Outland ($10 normally) was last on sale in December of 2013 and Gunstar Heroes (too bad its not Guardian Heroes but maybe there is hope now) has never been on sale, but on the flipside its a $5 game and super easy achievements).    Again, more titles are welcomed, but just a tad bit of a head scratcher.  Enjoy kids.

Deals with Gold for the week of April 5th, 2016

This is a complete waste of a week deal wise to be frankly honest. There are no BC sales, no interesting Xbox One sales, no real sales at all.  When one of your sales highlights is a Snoopy Game, the story pretty much writes itself.  So sit back, play an old game from your backlog (I’m finishing up Lego Batman personally), and we’ll see if something more interesting happens during the week.

Saints Row IV Added to Backwards Compatibility!

This one was expected as well, just perhaps came a little earlier than we expected (I personally though it would be the week of rather a couple of weeks early) but we are certainly not complaining.  I actually was going to sell my National Treasure Edition with all of the DLC but held off when this announcement came around.  I would imagine (though not confirmed) that Gat out of Hell will also be greenlit in the near future.  Enjoy.

PSA: Wolfenstein 3d (Activision version) should be now available in Ready to Install.

Remember how when Microsoft gave its first list of over 100 titles that we were quite happy to see Wolfenstein 3d as part of the list?  Of course for many of us, that turned to disappointment when we learned that the Bethesda version was cleared for backwards compatibility since that’s where the license lay and not the Activision version which many of us bought a while back.  Microsoft did put out a statement shortly after many people complained and said they were working on both versions for backwards compatibility.  They just had to get Activision to agree and last night I saw it in my ready to install list.  I don’t know if it happened yesterday, but it happened no more than a week ago I’m certain.  So good turnout there and again proof that if Microsoft says they are working on a game for BC, it’s not lip service.  Enjoy.

04/01/2016 Edit – Just a note, even though you bought the license to the Activision version, players will actually download the Bethesda version which means a couple of things.  1)You can earn the achievements all over again for more gamer score.  2)If you had a save file in the cloud for the Activision version, it won’t translate over.  It sounds like, and I could be wrong but basically Microsoft went to Bethesda and asked if they minded if all of the people who d/led the Activision version once upon a time could automatically get the Bethesda version on their X1.  They agreed (perhaps money or favors changed hands) and the situation is fixed.  I seriously doubt Activision had any part in it.

Dead Space added to Backwards Compatibility!

At this point, it wasn’t a surprise but those who own the disc (like me) or digital ahead of the Games with Gold offering in a couple of days will appreciate this announcement.  Enjoy kids, it is really nice to see the steady string of releases.  Hopefully they can keep it up.

Deals with Gold for Week of March 29th, 2016 and Left for Dead 2 is now BC!

Welp, forgive me for the shortness of this post but I’m quite under the weather.  First things first, the Week’s Deals with Gold .  Unfortunately, there are no BC Deals with Gold unless you want to play speculation and honestly I don’t put any of these at all that high probability.  I’m somewhat interested in Mars: War Logs but without it being BC, that jumps it down my interest quite a bit.  Also, per announcement on Twitter, Left 4 Dead 2 is now BC. I really like how the titles are coming out these days..now the sales just need to reciprocate.  Enjoy your week.

Halo Wars, Soul Calibur II & King of Fighters 98 added to Backwards Compatible!!

Keep em coming babie!  We got another set of three for today’s news fresh off the Easter Weekend.  Halo Wars is no big surprise since its Microsoft and has been rumored for months now.  I’ve never played it personally, but then again I’ve only played regular Halo in bits and pieces. The other two are a little unexpected (I think most people rather see Soul Calibur IV or V personally), but more games is always a good thing.  It should be noted that Soul Calibur II is still on sale for $4.99 until midnight tonight if you want to pick it up on the cheap.  Unfortunately, I grabbed Tekken Tag last week, I’ve kinda exceeded my fighting games quota for now :).

Ziggurat (Xbox One)

One of the best things about this generation of Xbox games is that we no longer have to worry about region restrictions with physical discs.  It used to be, especially with the 360, if you had a Japanese or European only game, then here in the states you were out of luck to play these games.  But with the Xbox One, that changed.  As long as you could get your hands on a copy, you could play it (minus any language complications).  I imported my first Xbox One game over the last month, Ziggurat.  It had been released here in the states but only digitally.  So this felt like the right opportunity to get a game with high marks in disc form.  I’m so very glad I made that decision.
