BC Deals with Gold for the week of September 27th, 2016

Well, it seems like everybody is slow this morning because I really don’t have anything to report.  360 deals aren’t even up yet.  And honestly, it’s fairly reasonable to surmise that there might not even end up being any deals to write home about.  I’ll update the column if I see anything but based on the XB1 deals, don’t expect much.

By the way, I started Mars: War Logs over the weekend and I’m actually enjoying myself.  The atmosphere is enticing and it seems like exactly what I need (a small RPG that’s not too tough).  The fighting does have its issues, and the colors are a little bland, but it’s not bad, seriously.  I will bring up one crucial tip for those who are playing…DO YOUR SIDE QUESTS.  A lot of games, the side quests barely matter except to prolong the game….but I had completely neglected my side quests  until nearly the end of Chapter 1.  Last night, I went back, did them and gained 4 levels.  (I was only level 5)  Certainly worth it and I will probably be a lot better prepared for what’s to come.  I’m half tempted to do a review once I beat it.  We’ll see.  Enjoy kids.

Call of Duty 3 added to Backwards Compatibility!!

Proving that the BC program does care about votes (despite what others might think), we are treated to yet another Call of Duty release.  This time it is Call of Duty 3, so COD people should rejoice (I know you want MW2, but it’s not happening…yet anyway).  I was hoping for one of the Risens since they are on sale this week, but no such luck.  Take care.

October 2016 Games with Gold Announced!!

Well, unfortunately I was out this morning on some personal business and I wasn’t near a PC in order to write up this post.  Ole Larry did announce the games with gold and unfortunately it did not have any “surprise we will be making that game backwards compatible”.  But the good news is that the 360 games are pretty decent and I’m certainly a little excited to play through “I Am Alive.”  Of course that one has to be in the bottom of the month, but we’ll take what we can get.  Enjoy.

Xbox One

Super Mega Baseball Extra Innings October 1st-31st

The Escapists October 16-November 15th.

Xbox 360 (Backwards compatible)

MX vs ATV Reflex  October 1st-15th

I Am Alive October 16-31st.

Word Puzzle added to Backwards Compatibility!

In the truly Meh! department, we get this long forgotten game from 2007 in the BC program.  It’s not even a $5 game to be honest, and unless you already own it…even if you do…ah heck with it.  Let’s hope there is something better farther in the week.  Later.

BC Deals for the Week of September 20th, 2016

Well after two weeks of pretty darn good sales, I guess we had to have a let down somewhere. Most people probably already have both Sacred games as Sacred 3 was a GWG and Citadel has been pretty darn cheap before. I will say that the Risens (all three of them) have been slated for backwards compatibility before, it’s just the matter of an announcement.  I probably would buy the first two (I’ve heard nothing good about the third one) if such an announcement was made.  We shall see I guess if any of these do pull a Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (patent pending) this week.  Enjoy.

Bound by Flame, The Maw, and Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown released to Backwards Compatibility!!!

We get some BC releases today and actually these are pretty darn good.  The highlight is Bound by Flame which I bought about a month or two ago at $10 for a sealed physical copy.  I was banking on the fact that it would be BC based on it was developed by Spiders who have put everything (at least I’m aware of) in their 360 library on Backwards compatibility.  Which in a show of good faith, I will make sure to buy a brand new copy of Technomancer (their newest Xbox One title) as soon as I can.  They deserve it.  The Maw was a fairly popular Xbox Live arcade title when it was released and is considered by many to be a classic.  Note, it does have 3 pieces of DLC at $1.25 a piece which do add achievements to the game.

Finally, Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown is the downloadable title (not the plain jane disc version) that was an update of their classic fighting game.  Be forewarned with Virtua Fighter 5, there are a LOT of DLC packs.  They are bundled in two complete Bundles, but also come with a price tag of $14.99 each (which is the same price for the game).  So it’s expensive…but gamers who love their fighting games will probably go for it.  It is worth noting that the DLC does not open up any new achievements (which the achievement are pretty easy anyway) and are only for cosmetics.  Enjoy!

Bound by Flame $29.99 (available physically)

The Maw $9.99

Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown $14.99

BC Deals with Gold for the week of September 13th, 2016

Welp, I did partake in the Namco sale last week….actually grabbed three games in total.  The 3 in 1 pack (PacMan, Galaga, and Dig Dug), Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition for Xbox One and then PacMan Museum for Xbox 360.  I stopped short of getting Galaga Legions DX and figured the nostalgia on the original Galaga would be enough.  I ended up playing Galaga off the 3 in 1 pack for about 2-3 hours, got over half of the achievements and then went back to something else.

This week is the usual Warner Bros (read as Batman) + Lego everything sale that we get every so many months.   Speaking about Lego, I would probably get Lego Batman 2 digitally if they made it backwards compatible.  I have the disc but I’ve barely touched it and would be willing to sell it off fairly quickly. In the it should be backwards compatible but currently isn’t department, we have Deadly Premonition and Lord of the Rings: War of the North both on sale.  I have both on disc and they are very well done.  I have a feeling this week that we might get something in this list on BC (like another Lego title or two) but I’m not holding my breath.  Enjoy.

Bayonetta, Arkanoid Live!, de Blob 2, Of Orcs and Men, and QIX++ added to Backwards Compatibility!!

Tweets can be found here and here.

Hopefully people are at least a little bit happy about today’s announcement.  I mean after all Bayonetta was one of the higher asked for games and one of my virtual personal locks if you remember my early columns.   Of Orcs and Men is also important due to being the original game that introduced us to a little stealthy goblin named Styx.  The only part that sucks is those of us in the United States can’t enjoy it (UK only).  The rest, happy to have them but really don’t interest me all that much.

Deathspank: TOV, Bejeweled 3, and Gatling Gears added to Backwards Compatibility!!

Three more new games for the backwards compatible library but sadly I’m only happy for one of them (Bejeweled 3).    I own the original Deathspank but not the sequel.  The humor is hilarious but much like most “really funny” games, they come with a high difficulty curve.  Bejeweled 3 is about what you would expect from the matching jewels game but it does have several fun modes that really put the game on its ear.  Personally I would try to find the disc as it goes for $5-$10 rather than the digital version which is $15.  The disc version also comes with Bejeweled Blitz which will probably become BC fairly soon.  Unfortunately, I know nothing about Gatling Gears, it’s a shoot-em up with some decent graphics, might be worth snagging on a sale if you don’t already own it.

Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue $14.99

Bejeweled 3 $14.99

Gatling Gears $9.99

BC Deals for the week of September 6th, 2016

This looks like quite the good week for those who like classic arcade games of yesteryear that are backwards compatible for the Xbox One.  In other words, we have a Namco sale this week.    I easily see three purchases for myself this week and I could probably be talked into one more.  Pac Museum is a steal at $5, Galaga Legions DX is a pretty good buy too (and Soul Calibur II HD has backed off its high entry price).  There are some good deals also on the Xbox one side too so take a look and enjoy.
