Games with Gold for Month of January 2018

Welp, in addition to officially posting the Countdown sales, we also get the games with gold for January 2018 and it’s not Killer Instinct Season 3 amazingly enough.  (For those who don’t know KI S1 and S2 were January 2016 and 2017 GWG).  I’m always happy about Van Helsing rearing its head but I am rather disappointed by the 360 games.  Army of Two is an awful choice when it has 10 discontinued achievements among other issues.  Tomb Raider Underworld is a little better, but it’s not exactly going to turn heads.  I mean I’m happy for four games that I don’t have technically, but perhaps we deserved a better Christmas present you know?  Happy Holidays.

Xbox One

  • The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing III (January 1st-31st)
  • Zombi (January 16th – February 15th)

Xbox 360

  • Tomb Raider: Underworld (January 1st-15th)
  • Army of Two (January 16th-31st)

BC Holiday Sales for Gold Members 12/21/2017

Welp, I wasn’t sure when this was going to pop up but I guess I should be glad that it did tonight since I’m still actually here for the holidays.  It looks like a pretty good sale to boot and you will notice that it is similar to the Black Friday sale but there are differences unfortunately.  So take a gander, this took a while and as usual the Major looks to be taking an early holiday which leaves me gleaming the sale from my other sources like TrueAchievements.

Fuller House Season 2 (DVD) Review

With the complete lack of BC news for the past couple of weeks, I decided to help out my old review site and do a DVD (yes, they still make those) review of Fuller House Season 2.  Check it out!

BC Deals for the Week of December 19th, 2017

Well, I would like to say I played a ton of Oxenfree or even Infinite Minigolf, but I really didn’t this past week.  Honestly, I had too much on my plate regarding the holidays and probably will for the next couple of weeks.  Not even anytime to really relax either.  In fact, typing this to you is probably the most relaxing thing I’ve done all week.  Anyway, I’m sure you don’t want to hear about all that.  Here are the sales. I will remind people on the X1 side that Sword Coast Legends will be removed from the marketplace by the end of the week. So if you want to give it a shot, spend the $4. There are a few interesting indie games here too with Valley and Zenith. On the Xbox 360 side, the Transformers are at a great discount but none of them are BC. But at least if you like your Street Fighter, then this sale is an one-stop shop (though it could be better priced). Enjoy.

BC Deals with Gold for the Week of December 12th, 2017

Welp, in a fit on I want to finish this game so I can get it off my backlog, I wrapped up my second playthrough of Grim Legends: Forsaken Bride.  100%, All Hidden Objects, All Dominoes, etc, etc.  It will probably be a while before I play an Artifex Mundi game again.  Not to say I won’t, but some of those puzzles are just ridiculous, even the second time around.  I did also start my third playthrough of Oxenfree (the mean playthrough) and hope to have that done by the end of the year, but no promises.

So, as you might expect the sales this week are pretty lousy.  The main attraction here is probably Mega Man 9 and 10 though those discounts could be better.  But Bound by Flames and Mars: War Logs have been here before.  And if you need a digital copy of Remember Me pick it up now as I do believe it will go BC sometime next year.  You heard it here first.  Anyway, enjoy the slow week, get another title off that backlog and we’ll see you here this week.  Take care.

BC Deals with Gold for the Week of December 5th, 2017

Welp, I finished my second playthrough of Oxenfree.   This was the strong silent playthrough which leaves the mean playthrough where I piss everybody off for the last one.  I would like to finish it this year, but I might give it a rest until I feel like messing with that last go around.  I do think however that I’m pretty much done with Infinite Minigolf, they sorely need to fix the short putting in that game.  A 2 inch putt should not be an adventure.  I would like to start a new game, but I’m not sure exactly what I want to start.  We’ll see I guess.

As Major Nelson mentioned in a Tweet earlier this week, there will be no more BC games for the  year.  I’m not too thrilled about that considering we did have some games last year in December and the output was lower this year than last.  I was also secretly hoping they would slide a couple more OG Xbox games too, but no, unfortunately not.  We do have some sales though, just nothing earth shattering. There are lots of bundles on the X1 side, just be careful you don’t get the same game in 2 different bundles.  No, I haven’t done that, but I could see how someone else could.  The only thing of interest for me is possibly the Starpoint Gemini 2 Gold Pack.  It’s still $16, but it has over $40 of content.  I’ve been jonesing for a space simulator and Elite Legendary Edition (Retail version is now $20 at Gamestop) is a little too complicated for me.  So maybe this is the one.  We’ll see.  Enjoy.

Earth Defense Force 2017 & Sonic Adventure 2 added to Backwards Compatibility!!

Well, it’s not often we get two separate announcements in a week anymore, but hey we appreciate it when it happens.   Earth Defense Force 2017 is actually a 2007 title despite the name because you are well fighting bugs in the future :).  Sonic Adventure 2 is appreciated as it is another Sonic title.  But it is also adds unnecessary DLC as well which will drive achievements hunters crazy.  Two to the hopper though.    Still would like to know if Sega is going to get around to putting Alpha Protocol, Condemned 2 or even Phantasy Star Universe (just the single player component) on BC.  Enjoy all the same.

Peggle 2 and Marlow Briggs & The Mask of Death added to Backwards Compatibility!!!

Welp, Peggle 2 has been added to Backwards Compatibility.  I guess I can close up shop for the day.  Scratch that, the YEAR!  No but seriously, it’s a fun game even if there is an Xbox One port, even if I have it 100% finished, all achievements, etc.  Marlow Briggs was expected as it was announced recently that it is going to be a GWG for Mid December.  I have a feeling that game though is going to be more fun than the silly title implies.  Hopefully, we get a few more BC titles including some OG Xbox announcements soon.  Enjoy.

BC Deals for the Week of November 28th, 2017

It’s been a long vacation week and I mean in that in the worst possible way.  This is the first day where I actually feel ok.  I’ve had bronchitis for about a week and thought I was getting better until Sunday night where I came down with the worst fever and chills imaginable.  Get my butt to an urgent care on Monday, pumped full of drugs and ready to go.  I am still in my second playthrough of Oxenfree (about 2/3rds through) and playing a lot of Infinite Mini-Golf which I am quickly getting tired of.  When you miss a 2 inch putt for the umpteenth time, it tends to get on your nerves.  Not worth my $7.50…sorry.

Here are the sales for this week.  Not too much in the way of BC, but fantastic discounts of 80% to 90%.  I have Conan on disc, but at $2…I can get rid of my disc.  It’s not exactly a collector’s item (or an RPG which I like having discs for).  I would purchase ArcaniA at $2, but I already own it.  On the Xb1 side, I think Shiness finally deserves my attention at $9.90.   That’s it, enjoy your week, I’ll be moving through mine.

Games with Gold for Month of December 2017

Welp, thought there wouldn’t be any major news this week, but I guess I was wrong.  Here are the Games with Gold titles for December 2017.  Well I had almost bought that Warhammer game several times.  On the flip side, I did buy the Back to the Future game.  I guess I can sell off my disc now.  On the 360 side, it looks like we have a new BC title in that Marlow Briggs game which I’ve honestly never heard of.  Hopefully it’s good.  Child of Eden I can take it or leave it honestly.  But not awful, that’s for sure.  Enjoy your Thanksgiving festivities.

Xbox One

  • Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide (December 1st-30th)
  • Back to the Future Game: 30th Anniversary Edition (December 16th – January 15th)

Xbox 360

  • Child of Eden (December 1st-15th)
  • Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death (December 16th-31st)
