11/13 Update on Backwards Compatibility Voting

Welcome to the 17th iteration of Backwards Compatibility Voting.

It finally happened this week, we got Backwards Compatibility in our Xbox One officially.  One hundred and four titles all there for us to enjoy (assuming we bought the original copy in some form or fashion).  As one could have easily guessed, voting was highly up last week among all titles not marked by Xbox as either in progress or has backwards compatibility.  Let’s check it out.

If you would like a copy of the file that these votes are stored in, please click here: Backwards-votes

Awww, still nobody beat ole Deadpool.  Even when voting was plenty high, Deadpool is a difficult juggernaut to stop.  Outrun was here too with over a 9% increase.  The third of the three amigos, NCAA Football 14 was here as well, just a little further back at #11.

But those aren’t the real story here, and neither is Diablo III: Reaper of Souls (stop, please) or even Crysis 3 (people want this game in BC now)….it’s the others.  For example: Driver: San Francisco…up almost 10%.  This game was supposed to be in Backwards compatibility from the get-go (see infamous graphic) and has not been officially announced.

Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age Origins, both strong vote getters this week.  They finished #6 and #14.  Borderlands Pre-Sequel, which incidentally I just sold my copy since I’m probably getting the Handsome Collection for Christmas.  The Divinity game gets top 10 again…Original Sin is not enough for these folks.

I also loved seeing Phantasy Star 2 there.  With a lot of Sega love in BC, this is becoming more and more possible and I will cheer the day it shows up (if it does).  There was also some vote for the odd games as both Alice: Madness Returns & Silent Hill: Homecoming both posted strong voting percentages.  And then there was Worms 2 even at #15.

Which brings up an interesting story.  See, I played with Backwards compatibility last night, and most of my stuff is in storage…so I didn’t have any other discs to stick in except Worms Collection.  But its not part of official BC yet you say…true.  It’s only in Preview to my knowledge.  But it recognized it, and tried installing it too to as well.  Unfortunately when you boot the game, it sticks at the loading screen.  So it’s one of those…allllllmost there things.  I’m eager to mess around with other compilation discs as time allows and when I get my games out of storage (and I’m sure Microsoft will be adding little fixes too).

Anyway, the list rounds out with Tales from the Borderlands (still hot off the final chapter) and Burnout Paradise who I’m sure peeves most people that thought it was going to be part of the first 104.  Sorry Charlie, maybe in December.

By the way, I will write an official column sometime this weekend probably of my impressions of Backwards Compatibility.  I do want to note, that my copy of Wolfenstein 3d did not appear on the Ready to Install list.  Probably because I’ve had Wolf 3d before they delisted it and then re-listed it again (Bethseda/Activision rights).  I’ll play it with again when I get home from my 360 first and then try to sync it up with the One.

Anyway, that’s it for this week.  A special announcement if you will.  Next week will be the last week of voting tabulation.  As you can tell this week, those titles that did get BC’ed fell to the bottom and the hopefuls rose to the top. It’s probably worth tracking next week, but then that’s it as this column shifts to playing these games through my Xbox One and seeing how they pan out (Speed differences, texture optimization, Compilation disc & dlc issues).  But if for some reason you do enjoy the voting tabulation past next week, please leave a comment.  Take care and enjoy your first BC weekend.
